Reading this book i learned a lot of different things and it helped change my perspective on a lot of things and how life is. The message i got was how there's a lot of people with depression and that they could of had a rough or still having a rough life, and in the example of Finch, his father was not the best father figure, especially the way he treated Finch and the way people acted around him generally. Many of his classmates called him a freak and he wasn't the most popular kid, mostly known for causing trouble. Reading this story made me feel a lot of things, with the way the story was written i was able to see Finch in these situations of having family troubles and just not fitting in with his peers and him thinking of suicide and how he likes to be in these long dark "coma's" and being able to control of he wants to continue living or let himself die. Also, i believe in way this just talks or is like suicide awareness especially with teens where its sadly been common, and i feel like it shows that it can happen to a lot of people and when we know someone whose going through a rough time i imagine that like when Violet found out Finch had been attending those classes where various teens had gathered to talk about their experiences with self-harm and how they can help one another move past that and when we see someone going through stuff we should try and communicate with them and let them know they're appreciated and they don't have to commit suicide, that there's people who care about them and their well-being. I know that when the next person decides to read this book, they'll have mix feelings about this book. and that their view on life will change because when i read the beginning i thought this was the most depressing thing i have ever read and for someone who's not comfortable straight up reading or discussing this topic, especially the way that its showed in the book, or what Ms Niven has gone through can make certain people take certain ideas from this but probably in a bad way. Although i did think this book was very sad and depressing, in the end when i read the whole book and evaluated the story; read comments from Ms. Niven herself i got a different perspective on her story it made me see that this is her way of just telling her fans, critics, anyone who reads this book what she has gone through, the pain and traumatic things she went through as a teen and it shows how it really can happen to anyone and its something that you cant really deal on your own.
